The Presiding Presence

Our guiding force

and

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother are not named among our founders. One does not found an institution upon a living Light — one only takes shelter in it. They are the consciousness we follow and the source of all that is attempted here. The Foundation is simply our offering laid at their feet.

1872 – 1950

Sri Aurobindo

The Vision · The Word

Poet, philosopher, and seer, he gave the vision of a divine life upon earth and the Integral Yoga by which the whole of our nature may be transformed. His writings remain the ground beneath everything we practise.

1878 – 1973

The Mother

The Force · The Care

His spiritual collaborator, who embodied that vision in the world and shaped the life of practice for nearly fifty years — the force and the tenderness through which an ideal became a living, daily work.

The Tradition

The lineage that guides us

We belong to a living stream that flows from Pondicherry into the world. These are the wellsprings we return to, and the current we hope, in our small way, to carry forward.

The Writings

Savitri & The Life Divine

A vast body of philosophy, poetry, and guidance that remains the source and standard of the practice.

The Ashram

Pondicherry

The community where the yoga is lived in the midst of ordinary work and daily life.

The Township

Auroville

The Mother's living experiment in human unity, still growing today around its golden centre.

The Founders

Two who joined hands

A vision may be eternal, but a Foundation must be built by human hands — registered, organised, tended, and carried forward day by day. Two came together to give this one its form, and to hold it faithfully to the Light it serves.

Joined in service

Mr Sheakhar MK

Co-Founder & Managing Trustee

A co-founder of the Foundation, Sheakhar gives it his steady stewardship — holding its governance, its resources, and its day-to-day working in careful order, so that the practice may go on undisturbed.

A fuller introduction to Sheakhar will appear here.

Ms Aditi Kaul

Co-Founder & Director, Programmes

A co-founder of the Foundation, Aditi shapes the life of its programmes — the workshops, retreats, and study — and the spirit of care in which each person who comes is received and gently guided.

A fuller introduction to Aditi will appear here.

Between them they hold the two halves of a single task — one tends the structure, the other tends the soul of the work — and together they keep the lamp burning and the door open to all who come.

The founders' shared intention

Come and be received

The door this Foundation keeps open is meant for you. Reach out to begin, or read the vision that guides the whole of the work.
